Key policy outcomes: |
- SBSTTA-19 adopted 8 recommendations, including on: biodiversity mainstreaming, indicators for the Strategic Plan, scientific and technical needs related to implementation of the Strategic Plan (including promotion of the role of TK systems and collective action of indigenous peoples and local communities), biodiversity and human health, climate-related geoengineering (including emphasis on the role of ecosystem-based approaches to climate change mitigation), forest biodiversity, and work of SBSTTA in light of IPBES
- WG8(j)-9 adopted 5 recommendations, including on: guidelines on prior informed consent and benefit-sharing for the use of traditional knowledge, draft best practice guidelines for repatriation of traditional knowledge, recommendations from the UNPFII, and the topic for the next in-depth dialogue (contributions of traditional knowledge in the implementation of the SDGs)

Activities contributed to objectives of: (1) securing collective rights and responsibilities of indigenous peoples and local communities for voluntary and self-directed conservation efforts, sustainable use and livelihoods; and (2) recognising and enforcing indigenous peoples’ rights and human rights in all conservation activities, under the draft strategy on “ICCAs & Conservation of Nature Law and Policy” |
