Participants from five countries gathered in Philippines for the ICCA Southeast Asia Regional Learning Network’s first event on Sustainable Livelihoods. They shared tools, strategies for local enterprises, and discussed how livelihoods need to be rooted in culture, territory, and strong traditional governance. Read more ▸
For the third time in the Philippines, more than a hundred stakeholders from indigenous people as well as government agencies and civil society gathered to acknowledge recent gains in the recognition of ICCAs institutionalization and elaborate a plan to continue supporting ICCAs in the country. UNDP Philippines received the “Development Aid of the Year Award” for Biodiversity. One of its commendable projects is the Philippine ICCA Project which aims at strengthening conservation by institutionalizing ICCAs as a sustainable addition to the national protected areas estate. Read more ▸
The Coalition Against Land Grabbing (CALG, Philippines) and the Coordinadora de Comunidades Mapuche-Williche “Willi Lafken Weychan” (Chile), ICCA Consortium Members and partners, were grant a “Keepers of the Earth Fund” small grant award by Cultural Survival. An orientation and dialogue on the Expanded National Integrated Protected Areas System (ENIPAS) Law was held in the Philippines on March 25-26 with indigenous community leaders whose ancestral domains overlap with protected areas. It led to a historic declaration. Read more ▸
The Declaration is a culmination of more than a year of documentation-related activities, including boundary delineation, 3D and digital mapping, resource inventory, and documentation of indigenous knowledge, systems, and practices (IKSP). Read more ▸
These monitoring reports were prepared, by ANGOC, an ICCA Consortium Member, in six Asian countries to understand the nature, causes, and impacts of land and resource conflicts, and to highlight the human rights issues intertwined with them. Read more ▸
